15 Minutes of Stardom
How a professional Graphic Designer can cause a stir in his/her local Apple store!
I’ve been thinking for a while I needed a new Mac and my ageing iMac was slowly starting to struggle. I deal with big design files for my clients, and I was tiring of the increasingly lethargic spin of the wheel of doom on my screen.
It was time to take the plunge and get a replacement. I did my research.
The type of design work I do requires a powerful machine capable of keeping up with me. I’ve worked on Apple Macs since 1994 and I’ve had more than a few.
I decided on the latest Mac Studio and Studio Display, as the iMac 27” was now a discontinued model.
I have to say, it’s quite a sexy machine.
Indulge me for a moment: the engine, a silver box of utter magnificence has the power and capability to keep up with the demands of creativity with no bounds, whilst the display delivers 27 inches of crystal-clear beauty.
In my view, it is by far the best option for the diversity and complexity of graphic design work I produce for my clients. Day in, day out.
The Mac Studio delivers incredibly fast rendering and takes everything in its stride. No more spinning wheel of doom.
I took a deep breath and ordered it online. Estimated delivery time 12 weeks! That was no good, I cancelled.
I’d visit my local Apple Mac shop and do the deal in person, my eldest teen asked if he could join. Any excuse to check out the latest Apple Mac wizardry. We set off excited.
We obediently made an appointment and rocked up at the allotted time. The shop relatively busy with the usual iPhone and iPad mania.
The Sales Assistant came over, she was super helpful, but assumed I wanted a laptop.
“I’m after the Mac Studio” I explained.
“Are you sure?” she replied.
“Yes, definitely a Mac Studio” I reiterated.
“Is it for your son?” she puzzled.
“No, definitely for me” I reassured her, my son smirking.
“I also want the display that goes with it” I added.
“You realise they come separately? Is it just the display you’re after Sir?”
“No, I want both. The Mac Studio and the Studio Display.”
“Are you sure?” she repeated “you want both? We’ve never sold both in store before. Can I ask what you do for a job?”
“I’m a professional graphic designer” I explained
“Ohhhh….…” she said with a sigh of relief. I did know what I was doing!.
“THAT explains it.”
What followed was a heightened flurry of excitement as she headed out back to collect the Studio and Display.
Word got out about my purchase, with various exuberant sales assistants coming up to us and asking “have you really just bought the Mac Studio? We’ve never sold one of those here before!”
In that moment, the teen and I felt like celebrities!
What a brilliant buying experience. Funny, but brilliant!
Apple Mac’s customer service nothing short of superb - once I convinced them I knew what I was talking about.
